Children's Eye Exam
Taking your child for a comprehensive eye exam at an early age, and maintaining regularly scheduled eye care checkups as they are growing up, is the best way to ensure that your child’s vision development reaches its full potential and to make certain that your child acquires the visual skills needed to fully participate in all activities.
Depending upon the findings of your child’s eye exam visit, eyeglasses, vision therapy, or additional procedures may be recommended.

Undergoing regular eye exams is the most effective way to catch eye conditions at an early enough stage to maximize your chances of treatment and recovery.
Especially in today’s world of computers, TVs and tons of visual information - it is vital that you go through a routine eye exam at least once a year to eliminate long term vision problems or diseases.

Diabetic Eye Exam
Diabetes is a chronic health condition that can increase your risk of many health conditions, including those related to the eye.
At PerFit Vision, Dr. Tan provides diabetic eye exams to monitor eye health for those with diabetes as well as comprehensive care to minimize damage and vision changes. While it directly influences the levels of sugar in your blood, it indirectly influences your entire body. It is especially important for diabetics to have regular eye exams due to risks of diabetic retinopathy, which is a complication that can even lead - if untreated - to complete loss of sight.
During these special exams, we place extra emphasis on early detection, carefully searching for any signs of damage that might go unnoticed. (This attention to detail is absolutely crucial, as sometimes diabetes can cause visual harm without exhibiting any warning signs or symptoms.)

Digital Retinal Imaging
Retinal imaging takes a digital picture of the back of your eye. It shows the retina (where light and images hit), the optic disk (a spot on the retina that holds the optic nerve, which sends information to the brain), and blood vessels. This helps your optometrist or ophthalmologist find certain diseases and check the health of your eyes.
Doctors have long used a tool called an ophthalmoscope to look at the back of your eye. Retinal imaging allows doctors to get a much wider digital view of the retina. It doesn’t replace a regular eye exam or regular dilation,, but adds another layer of precision to it.
Who Gets This Test?
Your doctor may recommend it if you have any the following diseases or conditions:
Diabetes: This disease can damage the blood vessels in your retina. Over time, it causes you to lose your sight if it is not controlled.
Macular degeneration: The central part of your retina (the macula) starts to get worse with age. You may have blurry vision and find it harder to focus. If that happens, you may be considered legally blind even though you may still have peripheral vision. There are two kinds of macular degeneration: wet and dry.
Dry macular degeneration is by far the most common form of this disease (up to 90% of the cases). It happens when blood vessels under the retina become thin and brittle.
Abnormal blood vessels growing under the retina cause wet macular degeneration. Vision loss is usually fast.
Retinal imaging is very important in finding this type of macular degeneration.
Glaucoma: This disease damages your optic nerve (located in the retina) and may cause vision loss. It typically happens when fluid builds up in the front of your eye. It can cause blindness but it normally progresses slowly and can be treated with special eye drops to lower the pressure caused by the fluid.
Retinal Toxicity: The arthritis drug hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) can damage your retina.
Your doctor may also use retinal imaging if your vision is getting worse and they aren’t sure why.

Dry Eye Treatment
Dry eye is a condition in which a person doesn't have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Tears are necessary for maintaining the health of the front surface of the eye and for providing clear vision.
People with dry eyes may experience irritated, gritty, scratchy or burning eyes; a feeling of something in their eyes; excess watering; and blurred vision.
Treatments for dry eyes aim to restore or maintain the normal amount of tears in the eye to minimize dryness and related discomfort and to maintain eye health.
Dry eyes can be diagnosed through a comprehensive eye examination at PerFit Vision. Testing with emphasis on the evaluation of the quantity and quality of tears produced by the eyes.

Eye Disease Diagnosis
Our eyes are vulnerable to a variety of diseases. Some of these are acute in nature, while others develop as chronic, sight-stealing conditions. The good news is that you can watch out for these diseases and manage chronic problems before they effect your vision.
Here at PerFit Vision, we provide ongoing eye disease detection and management to help you keep seeing your world as clearly and completely as possible.
The first step in eye disease management is early detection. Our optometry team can administer regular exams to catch the first signs of chronic eye disease. If we identify a problem, we will take immediate action to help you control it. In many cases, you may need to implement lifestyle changes such as a healthier diet, smoking cessation, or UV protection. Diabetics will often need to be more vigilant on managing their blood sugar. Medications can control most cases of macular degeneration and glaucoma, while corrective lenses can compensate for early-stage cataracts. If you need specialized care, we can refer you to the proper practitioner.

Ortho-K /CRT
Many patients with vision problems embrace the idea of enjoying vision correction without having to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. Not all of these patients, however, are good candidates for PRK or Lasik surgery. Some of our patients simply don't like the idea of any kind of surgery, or they want a reversible procedure. Orthokeratology may be an ideal choice for these individuals.
Ortho –K /Overnight Vision Correction has been shown to slow the progression of children’s and adult’s nearsightedness. Custom-fitted, gentle vision shaping contact lenses are worn while you sleep to temporarily reshape the cornea to improve vision during the day. You will be able to see clearly without the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Studies show that the progression of myopia is also slowed with Ortho-K therapy. With Ortho-K you can enjoy all of the activities they love without having to worry about eyewear. No more broken or lost glasses, no more contact lens care and no surgery.
Orthokeratology is also great for children and in fact works better for children. Kids that use orthokeratology have shown improvement in their vision, and in some cases have shown a slow in their progression of myopia, thus they won't inherit their parent's prescription of myopia. While there is no way to predict the effect on each individual child, ortho-k has seen great results as a whole. Plus, if your child wears the lenses at night they are less likely to break expensive eyewear during the day when they play sports or other activities.
